About Our Guidance Department
  
     The elementary school counselor can be seen in a variety of roles, some of which are noted below. The school counselors at Chipperfield Elementary can be reached by dialing 570-424-9280. The counselors are available and ready to assist students, parents, staff, and our community agencies to promote social, academic, and behavior success for our students.

Role within Chipperfield Elementary:

Communication-

·
Meet with students, parents, staff, community agencies
·
Follow-up requests/inquiries
· Coordinate referrals


Organizational and Coordination Responsibilities-

·
Core team member of the RtII Team
·
Review records of new students and coordinate the placement into a class/ follow-up with withdrawn students
·
Organize the transition from 4th to 5th Grade
· Community involvement responsibilities – with local agencies (Children & Youth Services, MHMR, and other therapists/specialists)

Academic –

· Parental contacts and coordinate parent/teacher meetings
·
Special Education involvement throughout the referral and initial process
·
Chapter 15/504 and GIEP Plan Coordinator

Direct Student Involvement- may include the following

·
Individual Student Concerns – peer, academic, behavior, social concerns
· Group Meetings – social skills/peer relationships (behaviors, friendship), personal issues (separation/divorce), grief, anger management
· Whole class - peer relationship, study skills, testing, friendship, bullying, other issues as they arise (teacher, principal, RtII referrals)
