About Our Guidance Department  
     The elementary school counselor can be seen in a variety of roles, some of which are noted below. The school counselors at SIES can be reached by dialing 570-424-9280. The counselors are available and ready to assist students, parents, staff, and our community agencies to promote social, academic, and behavior success for our students.
Guidance
Role within the SIES:

Communication-

·
Meet with students, parents, staff, community agencies
·
Follow-up requests/inquiries
· Coordinate referrals


Organizational and Coordination Responsibilities-

·
Core team member of the RTI Team
·
Review records of new students and coordinate the placement into a class/ follow-up with withdrawn 
   students
·
Organize the transition from 2nd to 3rd Grade and 4th to 5th Grade
· Community involvement responsibilities – with local agencies (Children & Youth Services, MHMR, and 
   other therapist/specialists

Academic –

·
Coordinate PSSA test for the students of SIES
·
Gifted Screening Process
·
Parental contacts and coordinate parent/teacher meetings
·
Special Education involvement throughout the referral and initial process
· Chapter 15/504 Plan Coordinator

Direct Student Involvement- may include the following

·
Individual Student Concerns – peer, academic, behavior, social concerns
· Group Meetings – social skills/peer relationships (behaviors, friendship), personal issue
   (separation/divorce), grief, anger management
· whole class - peer relationship, study skills, testing, 
    friendship, bullying, other issues as they arise (teacher, principal, RTI referrals)
